A THRIFTY mum has revealed how she prepared 74 meals for less than £55 in just THREE hours.
Australian mum-of-two Kaitie Pursell, 28, buys her ingredients in bulk before freezing the meals for when she's too busy to cook.
Using The Busy Mums' Guide to Weight Loss on a Budget, Kaitie's latest food prep stretched to 74 servings of six different meals.
Kaitie told The Healthy Mummy: "It's full of amazing, easy to make, delicious recipes that have saved me so much money."
Better still, the thrifty mum only spent £55 on her ingredients – meaning each meal cost her 70p.
Along with cooking up two different types of soup, Kaitie also made risotto, mac and cheese, beef chow mein and a sausage and vegetable pasta bake as part of her enormous meal prep.
Meals Kaitie made:
- nine beef chow meins
- 12 sausage and vegtable pasta bakes
- 14 portions of chicken and corn soup
- 15 servings of vegetable and tortellini soup
- 12 cheese and tomatto risottos
- 12 tuna mac and cheese meals
What's more, the 28-year-old mum has lost 21.6 kilograms since she first started cooking in bulk.
She added: "Being prepared and getting organised doesn't only save time and money, it also makes your life so so much easier."
Giving away some of her tried-and-tested tips, Kaitie recommended that parents follow a meal plan every week to make their money go further.
"If Sundays don't work for you then find a time that does! I often spend less than an hour in the kitchen preparing a whole week of food for my family.
Additionally, Kaitie also reduces the cost of her weekly shop by using cheaper cuts of meat where she can and supplementing her meals with lentils and carrots.
And instead of letting your half-used containers of passata and curry paste go bad in the fridge, this savvy mum has a handy trick for making them go further.
Kaitie said: "Freeze all unfinished pastes such as curry pastes, tomato pasta and passata. Pour into an icecube tray and once frozen transfer to a ziplock bag."
