Jill did not opt for a US designer to stand by her husband’s side as he made his first speech after his victory in the US election 2020 was called, unlike her predecessor. Instead the teacher wore Dominican designer Oscar de la Renta.
This is somewhat of a nod to history, as De La Renta become well known for his dressing of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
The dress is from the Oscar de la Renta resort 2020 collection, designed by Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim who took over the label in 2016.
The asymmetric floral design, with colourful blooms on black material, was worn with a black mask and pink stilettos with bows on the toe.
Similar dresses have sold in the region of £3,000.
Melania Trump celebrated her husband’s victory in the 2016 US election in the early morning of Wednesday, November 9 2016.
She wore a white jumpsuit with a thigh split. The one-shoulder style was flattering to the soon-to-be First Lady.
The look was a $4,000 (£3,098) Ralph Lauren jumpsuit, with the Slovenian-born former-model championing American designers.
At the time the white hue was likened to the white worn by the suffragists when campaigning for the right to vote.

Melania Trump’s ‘call to arms’: First Lady on true love for Donald [SPEECH]
Shortly after Donald Trump was elected a number of designers came forward claiming they would refuse to dress Melania.
These included Tom Ford and Marc Jacobs. It was a surprising move, as many designers would jump at the opportunity to dress a First Lady of the United States.
However, US designer Tommy Hilfiger spoke out and said: “Melania is a very beautiful woman and I think any designer should be proud to dress her.
“I don’t think people should become political about it. Everyone was very happy to dress Michelle (Obama).”
Jill Biden’s style has seen her wear dresses by the likes of Dolce and Gabbana and Dior in the run up to the election.
As her husband Joe Biden has worked in government for decades, the new First Lady has much experience with diplomatic dressing.
Billionaire’s wife Melania, on the other hand, is likely to have felt much more of an adjustment to her First Lady role.
To cast her vote Melania Trump wore a £17,000 look.
The First Lady wore a chain-print midi dress to cast her vote in Florida, near her and Donald’s Palm Beach home of Mar-a-Lago.
The dress, from fashion label Gucci, cost around £3,445.
She carried an Hermès Kelly bag, which comes with a staggering price tag of around £13,000.
Melania boosted her 5ft 11in frame with a pair of Christian Louboutin nude heels, costing £495.
Melania Trump: Five facts about the USA’s First Lady
Mum-of-one Melania can speak more languages than any other First Lady before her: English, French, German, Italian, Serbian and of course her mother tongue, Slovenian.
This also makes her the only First Lady whose first language is not English.
After Jacqueline Kennedy, Melania is the second First Lady who is a practising Catholic.
She met Pope Francis as part of a foreign tour with her husband and stepdaughter Ivanka last year.
Melania was a successful model, posing for Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and GQ.
Her skills aren’t confined to print, and she appeared in a commercial for Aflac, an American insurance company, in 2005.
Melania’s parents are Amalija Knavs and Viktor Knavs, and the couple live together in Washington.
She has one sister, Ines, who is reported to live in New York and work as an artist.
On May 7 2018, Melania launched her flagship campaign as First Lady, BE BEST, which The White House describes as “an awareness campaign focused entirely around the well-being of children”.
There are three main strands to the initiative: well-being, social media, and opioid abuse.
