Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid, 50, has revealed that she was in “shock” when her former co-host Piers Morgan walked off set after his clash with weather reporter Alex Beresford earlier this year. In a new interview, the ITV star told how she “didn’t really think” that Piers, 56, would end up leaving the show for good.

Reflecting on the moment her co-star stormed off the GMB set, the mother-of-three told how it now feels like “a blur”.

Susanna admitted: “I was in shock.

“It felt surreal as Piers got up and left.

“I went out to talk to him; we had an animated discussion,” she explained.

She went on: “I don’t remember what I said, it’s all a bit of a blur now, but back he came.”

Susanna revealed that despite tensions running high and Piers storming out, she never thought he’d leave the ITV programme for good.

“I didn’t think he’d really leave the show,” she said, before adding: “That was definitely another shock.”

Looking back on the moment, the star branded it an “emotional” time.

“The whole thing was intense, raw and emotional,” Susanna told the Daily Mail’s Weekend Magazine.

“Piers had been the person I’d sat alongside and forged a successful partnership with for five years,” she added of her long-term co-host.

The newsreader said she remembers thinking “what happens next?” as she anticipated the “reverberations” of her former co-presenter’s actions.

Following the outburst, Susanna went on to present the next GMB show on her own and made an emotional statement about Piers’ absence.

Piers caused uproar with his comments about Meghan Markle following her tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

During the sit-down chat, Meghan claimed to have experienced struggles with her mental health as a senior member of the palace, while also claiming that an unnamed royal made a racist comment about Archie prior to his birth.

Following the interview, Piers criticised the Duchess live on GMB, saying: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said. I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”

“Well, that’s a pathetic reaction to someone who’s expressed those thoughts,” Susanna hit back.

He then clashed with ITV weather reporter Alex Beresford over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s comments, which resulted in him storming off the set.

Hours later, ITV released a statement confirming the presenter’s departure from the show after six years fronting it alongside Susanna Reid.

Following Piers’ comments, Ofcom received a record-breaking 58,000 complaints.

However, days ago the regulator ruled that the former newspaper editor had not breached their code of conduct with his comments about the Duchess of Sussex.
