Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney win bid to buy Wrexham AFC

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have scored big after winning their bid to buy and takeover Wrexham AFC.

The Hollywood actors have received an overwhelming amount of support to buy the Welsh club after detailing their plans to promote the team globally.

A statement on the Wrexham AFC website confirmed they are set to complete, stating: ‘The Wrexham Supporters Trust Board would like to thank Mr Rob McElhenney and Mr Ryan Reynolds, and their advisors Inner Circle Sports and Walker Morris, for their professional and considered approach and for the time they have already put into the process.

‘As Wrexham supporters, we would like to wish them the very best of luck in charge of our Football Club and look forward to what the future brings.’

The club’s director Spencer Harris added: ‘These are two very successful people who have done great things on-screen and some great things off-screen.

‘They’re really interested in taking something with real potential, which this club has, investing in it, molding it and watching it grow. That journey is their ultimate motivation, and part of what they want to do is document that journey as they go. But I think it’s more about that journey.’

Ryan and Rob have promised to inject around $2.64 million (£2 million) into the club’s infrastructure and will also produce a documentary on its history and revamp.

The pair celebrated the win by simply tweeting: ‘Wrexham Is The Name.’
