Prince Charles deeply hurt that he hasnt spoken to son Harry in eight months

Prince Charles and Prince Harry have “barely spoken” in the last eight months and their relationship is “at an all-time low”, according to reports.

Harry’s comments about his family since he moved to the US with wife Meghan Markle have caused a rift between them and left Charles “deeply shocked and hurt”, sources say.

Things are said to have become more difficult on Sunday, 5 December, after Prince Harry said he’d “severed ties” with Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, the Saudi tycoon who controversially received a CBE from Prince Charles in 2016 after donating millions to royal charities.

Charles was last seen in public with Harry at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral eight months ago, and the pair are said to have only kept in touch via a few “fraught” phone calls since.

Prince Charles has been “keeping a dignified silence” because he fears a public rift could affect his reign, sources toldThe Sun, with the future King not believed to have met his six-month old granddaughter Lilibet yet.

A friend of the Prince of Wales said: “Charles is deeply shocked and disappointed by Harry's latest statement which effectively threw his father under the bus.

“This attack was more damaging than the swipe at Charles's parenting skills because this was a challenge to the way he conducts his business which is far more damaging to the future King.

"Attempts have been made to clear the air but they have barely spoken since the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral.”

On Sunday, Harry toldThe Sunday Timesin a rare statement that he had severed ties with the Saudi billionaire at the centre of the “cash for honours” scandal because of “concerns over his motives” and had “expressed his concerns” over Mahfouz Marei Mubarak bin Mahfouz, who was seeking residency in the UK.

Billionaire Mahfouz is thought to have donated £1.5million to Charles’s Prince’s Foundation and received an honorary CBE months later. The Charity Commission has since launched an investigation.

Prince Harry’s relationship with his father is said to have become strained following his and Meghan's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March.

The Duke claimed his father had cut him off financially when he and Meghan announced plans to move to America, with there being “a lot of hurt” involved.

Harry previously told a podcast in the US that he moved to the States to “break the cycle” of “pain” he suffered when he was growing up.

He said of his dad: “He treated me the way he was treated”.
