Stars like Jay-Z, George Clooney and Beyonce were among the A-list crowd at Barack Obama’s 60th birthday celebration.
But as Royal watchers noted, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were absent – despite the fact the Sussexes had previously been on good terms with the former President and First Lady,
And now a royal expert has claimed this is down to one key reason – Harry’s treatment of his family.
Royal expert Camilla Tominey says the reason for them not making an appearance at the celebration could be down to the former president not appreciating the way Harry has spoken of his own family in the past.
Camilla told the Telegraph: "It arguably will not have gone down well with a couple who have always put 'family first' to see Harry and Meghan being so openly critical of their royal relatives during their Oprah interview in March.
"When it comes to Harry and Meghan, it seems, the former president and first lady remain firmly of the view that blood is thicker than water."
Camilla has also said an insider told her: "The Obamas didn’t like Harry attacking his family. They value family and certainly aren’t the type of people who would want their children talking to the press."
Prince Harry and the Obamas appeared together in 2016 to promote the Invictus Games alongside the queen while Meghan had attended a talk Michelle Obama had given at the London Southbank Centre in 2018.
After the Oprah interview, Michelle Obama was asked for her opinion on what was said by Access Hollywood.
She said: "My hope is that, when I think about what they're going through, I think about the importance of family and I just pray that there is forgiveness and there is clarity and love and resolve at some point in time.
"Because there's nothing more important than family."
Harry and Meghan have exploded into the public eye as of late after the pair gave a world shattering interview to Oprah Winfrey at the start of the year.
Harry has since appeared on the Apple TV series The Me They Can’t See alongside Oprah where he again spoke about his family and criticised portions of his upbringing.
