Gogglebox: Show pays tribute to Pete McGarry

Gogglebox star Mary Cook has died at the age of 92 after missing the latest series of the Channel 4 show. The television favourite passed away surrounded by her family in hospital.

Bristolian Mary joined the Channel 4 show in 2016 alongside Marina Wingrove.

This was after the pair first met when they moved into the same retirement village 10 years ago.

They were later discovered by a Gogglebox researcher during a trip to Asda.

The pair became fan favourites on the series but were absent when it aired earlier this year.

Now Channel 4 has confirmed Mary’s death in a moving statement on behalf of her family.

This reads: “We are extremely saddened to share that Gogglebox star Mary Cook passed away in hospital this weekend at the age of 92 with her family by her side.

“She will be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.”

They went on to become “instant fan favourites” in the fly-on-the-wall series.

“Mary will be sorely missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew,” the statement continued.

“Our love and thoughts are with Mary’s family, friends, and Marina. The family have asked for privacy at this sad time.”
