Lady Gaga was left in a ‘catatonic state’ by the speed of becoming a celebrity, she now admits.
Life moved too fast after her global hit Just Dance in 2008. She was still trying to catch her breath right up until the release of her latest record, Chromatica, this summer.
Gaga, no stranger to the headlines with kooky fashion choices such as her meat dress and carrying a teacup as an accessory, confessed: ‘I used to wake up in the morning, and I would realise I was “Lady Gaga”. And then I became very depressed and sad, and I didn’t want to be myself.’
The singer, real name Stefani Germanotta, says fame didn’t turn out to be as she had imagined. ‘I felt threatened by the things my career brought into my life and the pace of my life,’ admitted Gaga, who won an Oscar for Shallow, her song from A Star Is Born.
‘I spent a lot of time in a sort of catatonic state of just not wanting to do anything.’
The US star, who has also battled PTSD and the pain-causing condition fibromyalgia, has had a renaissance this year after Chromatica went to No.1.
She says focusing on the studio rather than fashion grounded her, telling People magazine: ‘I finally, slowly started to make music and tell my story through my record.’
Gaga has also been urging her Instagram followers to vote in the US election.
More Guilty Pleasures…
Taylor puts on a brave face amid stalker ordeal
Taylor Swift masked any jitters over a stalker’s ‘rape’ threat by taking care of her own make-up and hair for her first live performance since the pandemic.
Tay Tay dazzled in a sparkling top and trouser combo from Stella McCartney at the Academy of Country Music Awards in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old superstar performed betty, from her No.1 lockdown album folklore, at the Grand Ole Opry on the same day a stalker was jailed.
Eric Swarbrick was sentenced to 30 months by a Nashville judge after he pleaded guilty to stalking and sending threatening letters and emails to Swift’s former label Big Machine Records.
Swarbrick, from Austin, Texas, sent at least 40 letters and emails to Big Machine from January 2018 asking to be introduced to the star — with the messages becoming increasingly violent and sexual.
He was arrested on his third visit to the record company’s building, in August 2018. After being released, Swarbrick continued to send shocking messages to the company, expressing his desire to rape and kill Swift. The singer has previously revealed she carries bandages at all times to treat any stab or bullet wounds.
Other unwanted admirers have included Roger Alvarado, who tried to break into her house last year. In 2018, Mohammed Jaffar was arrested for stalking and burglary — the same year Frank Hoover was sentenced to ten years’ probation after threatening to kill the singer.
Kanye Twitter ban for piddling offence
Kanye West’s friends claim he has been ‘kicked off’ Twitter after sharing a video of himself piddling on one of his Grammy awards.
The All Day rapper seemed to disappear from social media after posting a string of messages about his battle with record labels Universal and Sony on Wednesday, and now former NBA star Rick Fox says his mate Ye has been hit by a ban.
Fox, 51, claimed: ‘My friend @kanyewest wants you all to know that he was kicked off of @Twitter for 12 hours.’
The sportsman’s post came seven hours after 43-year-old Kanye’s last tweet, in which he branded record contracts a ‘trap’.
Kanye was also forced by Twitter to remove a post which included the phone number of Forbes’s chief content officer, Randall Lane.
Nothing to smile about as Katy’s album falls off chart
Katy Perry will be in need of a pick-me-up after her comeback album Smile tanked in the States.
The record tumbled out of the top 50 after only two weeks. The news comes after the 35-year-old recently admitted the failure of her last album, Witness, left her ‘clinically depressed’.
Katy, who last month gave birth to Daisy, her daughter with Orlando Bloom, said of that hard knock in 2017: ‘Coming out of Witness, my last album, I became very upset and clinically depressed.
‘I became insecure and had to go on a journey, emotionally, spiritually and psychologically to understand why I relied so much on validation.’
