Saturday Morning host James Martin is known for showcasing his delicious recipes and succulent dishes on the ITV programme. The TV chef has previously opened up about his weight loss journey but has since dished on being branded “chunky”.

The 48-year-old spoke candidly about people’s perception of him when they are first introduced to the chef.

During a recent episode of Saturday Morning, James got to work putting together a bacon dish.

The ITV favourite revealed that he is often referred to as “chunky” by people as he addressed his weight.

James began: “A little bit of oil in our frying pan. We’re going to fry our big chunky lardons.

“So often when your serving bacon and salad people cut it far too small.”

He chuckled: “The bacon plays hide and seek and it wants to be chunky, like what people call me the first time they see me. Chunky.”

James who regularly cooks up a storm on his weekly cooking show since 2017 has also appeared in numerous TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing in 2006.

During his time on the BBC dance show, the TV chef attempted to shed the pounds.

It was reported at the time that he lost a stone in just a week.

By the time he was voted off the show, having reached the semi-finals, he had lost an impressive five stone.

Since his Strictly debut, James has admitted he has become more self-conscious about his appearance in 2018.

“I’ve lost a stone-ish. I just think it’s a lifestyle thing and also looking at yourself on TV,” James commented.

“I don’t really watch the programmes that I do because you get critical of yourself. You kind of watch and go, ‘Oh God there’s a bit of a chin happening there’.”

He continued to MailOnline: “And everybody’s TVs are bigger now.

“Before you used to watch TV on a small one and now they’re massive.”

Elsewhere, James recently dished on the advice he issued to his This Morning co-star Holly Willoughby.

James said that everyone should have a deep fat fryer in their home but he didn’t know if Holly had paid attention.

“I think everyone should have a deep fat fryer,” he said while watching a plant-based chef get to work in his kitchen.

“Holly Willoughby – I got her to get a deep fat fryer. I even gave her a link of where to buy it from.”

He added: “I don’t know if she [got one]… I need to tell her next time.”

Saturday Morning continues today on ITV at 9.30am.
