EastEnders star Jake Wood announced he was quitting the BBC show last month, 15 years after first setting foot in Albert Square. Earlier today, the 48-year-old actor took to social media to address his reasons for leaving the programme that made him a household name.

The soap star has been answering a number of questions from fans on Instagram this week, in view of his 101,000 followers.

He posted a picture of a query he received, which asked: “Is it true you are leaving EastEnders because you have bought a zoo?”

The quick-witted actor jokingly replied: “Are you having a giraffe?”

Jake’s retort amused his followers and fans who took to the comments section with laughing emojis in their droves.

TV’s Richard Arnold was one of the first to reply and share a laughing emoji as well as a hand on the face sign.

Fellow EastEnder Natalie Cassidy also thought the post was funny.

A few days ago, Jake showed off his sense of humour when he shared another message from a fan.

“I’m sure you were my driving instructor about 15 years ago…”

“Move off when you are ready,” he replied.

The remark even impressed rival soap star Jack P Shepherd, best known for playing David Platt in Coronation Street, who liked the post.
