John Whaite, 32, has taken to Instagram to thank fans for their support during Strictly Come Dancing. The Bake Off star broke down in tears as he expressed being unable to “let go” during performances due to the “little voice” in his head.

It’s fear, it’s fear.

In view of his 230,000 followers, John posted an emotional video, breaking down in tears by the end.

He said: “Hi everybody, I just wanted to reiterate my thanks to everybody who voted to keep Johannes and me in the dance competition.

“I’m sorry that I couldn’t let myself go completely this week again.

“That little voice from last week two has found its way back into my head and it’s niggling away at me.”

John told his fans how hard it is for him to be “completely vulnerable” during performances, asking fans if it’s normal to always have your guard up.

He continued: “This process is teaching me that I really have to just let down that guard and trust Johannes.

“I owe it to Johannes to, you know, not be tense and scared and getting afraid.”

By this point, John could no longer keep his emotions in, and his voice began to crack.

Composing himself, John added: “It’s fear, it’s fear.

“So thank you for giving me another chance.

“It’s a very emotional process and I’m going to go for gold this week, I am going to give it everything I have.”

Last night, John and Johannes performed the Viennese Waltz to Mary Poppins for Musicals Week.

Although the pair scored eight from all judges, this was not good enough for John.

Anton said about the performance: “I love watching you dance.

“I just feel your performance is just a bit safe.

“I feel you have so much more to give and I’m not sure if it’s because you’re nervous about going wrong or whatever it is.”

Anton added that he wanted John to “let the handbrake off”, telling the celebrity that the “sky’s the limit”.

The Sun recently reported that John has been “eyed up for a stage role” due to his amazing performances week after week.

The insider said: “It’s not just his moves on Strictly that have caught the attention of directors, it’s also the charisma and confidence he’s shown as he finds himself in the spotlight.

“Plus he’s been posting videos where he’s singing and playing the guitar, making him a ‘triple threat’ in the West End.”

You can watch John perform on next week’s show on Saturday on BBC One at 6.55pm.
