Last night, a video taken on April 1 surfaced on Reddit and made its way around Twitter. The alarming video shows someone who appears to be Fantastic Beasts and Perks of Being a Wallflower actor Ezra Miller choke a woman and throw her to the ground.
Initially, many who watched the video were confused about whether or not it was a joke and what the context was. After it reached all corners of the internet, Variety sources from Prikið Kaffihús—the Reykjavik, Iceland bar where the incident occurred—confirmed “this was a serious altercation,” identified the person as Ezra, and said the actor was escorted out.
The video only lasted about 15 seconds, but in it, you can hear someone who appears to be Ezra say, “Oh, you wanna fight? That’s what you wanna do?” before reaching for the neck of a woman who seemed to be jokingly preparing for a fight. Ezra then appeared to push her back against a truck and slam her to the ground as the person recording said, “Whoa, bro. Bro.” The camera turned off shortly after.
According to the Chicago Tribune, another source at the bar said the incident began when Ezra “was confronted by a group of eager fans, who were ‘quite pushy.'” They added, “Things then escalated, with Miller losing [their] temper at one woman in particular.” It should go without saying that no matter how “pushy” a fan is, they don’t deserve to be met with violence.
Ezra hasn’t commented on the video, but many disappointed fans are calling on them to do so.
