Mariah Carey is one of Darlene Love’s favorite singers to perform her 1963 holiday classic, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” — but don’t expect a duet.
“The only reason I say maybe that might not work is because we might clash! We both sing the song the same way. We would have to probably rehearse. I don’t [usually] rehearse with anybody,” Love told Page Six before performing the song with Jason Derulo on ABC’s “The View.”
“When Patti LaBelle [sang] it with me, they snatched her out of the audience and she just went off. I never want to overstep my guests. I’m ‘The View’s’ guest, and now they’re my guest, and I just want them to shine, too, because I’m going to shine,” she said.
Love, 78, wasn’t feeling so festive when she saw Skylar Astin and Alex Newell performing her hit on NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” this month. She posted on Facebook of the network, “Show me some respect!” and she elaborated to Page Six, “I’m not talking about the two people that did the song. I’ve heard Michael Bublé sing my song and he sings the doo-doo out of it and he gives me
props: ‘Darlene, I hope I do you justice.’ Mariah Carey says the same thing.”
