Danny Millers fiancee Steph details emotional birth after 20-hour labour and hormone drip

Danny Miller and his fiancee Steph Jones are thrilled with their new addition, Albert, but the baby's birth was not without its issues.

The Emmerdale actor, who is rumoured to be heading into I'm A Celebrity… this year, and his partner have introduced Albert in an exclusive OK! interview and photoshoot, with Danny admitting he was 'in bits' when his little boy arrived safely a week earlier than expected.

But the lead up to the birth was a mammoth 20-hour labour which Steph admits "felt like longer."

She told us: "My contractions started in the night and I ended up cleaning the whole house and vacuuming at 4am to try and distract myself.

Steph continued: "The midwife came at 8am and checked me, but we weren’t quite ready to go in so Danny prepared me a bath with candles. Then she came back and we went into hospital at about 3pm on the Sunday."

The midwife then explained that after her waters broke, she was put on a hormone drip " to progress the labour, as by that point I’d been 4cm [dilated] for hours."

"I knew we were either going to progress or I was going to end up going to theatre," she admitted. "But once I started on the hormone drip I got to fully dilated really quickly and he was born 25 minutes later in the delivery suite! Danny was my cheerleader. On the papers it says the labour was 20 hours but it feels longer [laughs]!"

The couple also recalled how Steph didn't take well to the painkillers she was given, leading Danny to joke that "she was spaced out".

While she was due to have another dose of the meds, Danny gently persuaded the midwives not to up Steph's dosage, which turned out to be the right decision as any more "would have knocked her out."

For Steph, who is a trained midwife, it was certainly different being the one giving birth for a change.

"At no point did I feel like a midwife and I wasn’t looking at the baby’s heart rate or anything," she said. "I think because we felt so supported and trusted the midwives who were for caring for me, I just focused on trying to getting through each contraction."

The couple went on to thank the midwives who delivered Albert safely – as they also helped Danny! "

They even got him a McDonald’s breakfast!" Steph revealed.

Albert was born on 25 October at 9.16am, weighing 6lb 11oz. The couple had been trying to conceive naturally for a year and were just days away from starting IVF when Steph discovered she was pregnant.

Speaking of the moment Albert arrived, Danny, who plays Aaron Dingle in the ITV soap, said: “I was in bits. It’s made me much more in love with Steph.”
