Country star Granger Smith has revealed the heartbreaking news that his three-year-old son River has died.
Taking to Instagram, Granger revealed the youngster was the victim of a ‘tragic accident’ and that ‘despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived’.
Granger and his wife Amber Smith asked fans to ‘send donations to Dell Children’s Medical Center in River’s name’ in lieu of flowers.
‘I have to deliver unthinkable news. We’ve lost our youngest son, River Kelly Smith,’ Granger shared in the emotional post alongside a picture of him cuddling his late son.
‘Following a tragic accident, and despite doctor’s best efforts, he was unable to be revived. Amber and I made the decision to say our last goodbyes and donate his organs so that other children will be given a second chance at life,’ he added.
‘Our family is devastated and heartbroken, but we take solace in knowing he is with his Heavenly Father. Riv was special. Everyone that met him knew that immediately. The joy he brought to our lives cannot be expressed and his light will be forever in our hearts.
‘If there are words to say more, I cannot find them in this moment. Love the ones close to you. There has never been a more difficult moment for us than this.’
Amber also shared a post on social media, admitting that ‘nothing can prepare a mother to deliver this kind of news’.
The pair are also parents to seven-year-old daughter London, and son Lincoln Monarch, five.
River turned three on 16 May, with Amber sharing a beautiful collage of pictures to celebrate the big day.
‘Someone is 3 today! Happy birthday to our fearless, tractor and Lightening McQueen loving, red-headed, dare devil! He keeps us laughing, definitely keeps me on my toes, gives the best hugs and is as sweet as honey! We love our little Riv,’ she wrote.
The singer announced the birth of son River in May 2016, writing along with a family photo: ‘Heart and hands are full. We added one more boy to the clan. River Kelly Smith has joined his brother and sister!’
