Carol Kirkwood, 58, revealed she’s beyond proud of her BBC Breakfast co-star Dan Walker, 44, who made it through to week 10 of Strictly Come Dancing alongside his pro partner Nadiya Bychkova, 32, following this weekend’s results. But his success angered quite a few viewers, who were “furious” that he remained in the BBC competition while Tom Fletcher and pro dancer Amy Dowden were sent home.

Dan is so nimble and light footed! It was an absolute joy!!

Taking to Twitter on Monday morning following the results, Carol made her stance on the backlash very clear in a subtle nod to backing Dan 100 percent.

“Just loved watching @mrdanwalker @NadiyaBychkova in the @bbcstrictly studio on Saturday!” she penned.

“Dan is so nimble and light footed! It was an absolute joy!!! #proud.”

The BBC star soon replied to the weather presenter, saying: “I love you Carol.

“It was brilliant to have you there. See you on the telly in a bit.”

Dan also paid tribute to Carol on BBC Breakfast, telling co-star Sally Nugent: “Carol Kirkwood was there.

“Just before we started, I had a little glance over and I saw a huge grin right on the front row.”

As he showed his gratitude for her attendance, Dan and Sally watched over the clips of his Charleston on Saturday, which included some tricky lifts.

He said of Nadiya: “She was brilliant. This lift here, by the way, wait for it…”

“Get your bum over there, go on. Yeah, have some of that,” he commented as she flipped over his shoulder.

Returning to Carol, Dan revealed she had met his dance partner and immediately hit it off.

“Carol was so lovely,” he continued, “Nadiya had met her on Facetime last week when we spoke to Carol as people who have taken part in Strictly previously.”

“But they’re best mates now. They’re having a right old chin wag.”

Carol competed in the 13th series of Strictly, paired with professional dancer Pasha Kovalev.

Her sweet comments come after Dan also spoke out about the hate he and Nadiya have been receiving following their advancement on the show.

Following their performance on Saturday, the dancing duo received 31 out of 40 points for their efforts, which put them at the bottom of the leaderboard with Tom and Amy.

After the judges chose to save Rhys Stephenson and Nancy Xu instead, Dan received some negative comments about still having a place.

But the friendly presenter wouldn’t let them get him down, as he focused on the positive messages instead.

Alongside screenshots of the comments, he wrote: “I’m well aware that some people are furious that I’m still dancing, and that’s fine.

“I have never posted any of the thousands of positive messages we get every single week but, in the interests of balance, thank you to everyone who sends stuff like this. See you next week.”

One fan messaged Dan to tell him they thought he was inspiring.

Another said their children loved watching him and Nadiya perform each week.
