The Dream Weaver: 13 Common Dreams and What They Mean

You’re falling. Your teeth fall out. You oversleep for your big work presentation. We’ve all had those dreams that have made us wake up in a full panic, only to realize they’re, well, just dreams. But what do they actually mean?

“Dreams are your subconscious thoughts. They’re a continuation of your thoughts of your day,” explains certified dream analyst and speaker Lauri Loewenberg. While you’re sleeping, your brain is conjuring up around five dreams per night (yes, even if you don’t remember them). That’s a lot of subconscious thoughts to unpack. And although every dream is unique, but they do tend to follow certain, very symbolic, patterns.

We asked Loewenberg, as well as psychologist Dr. William Braun, to explain the deeper meanings behind these 13 common dreams. Find out what yours means below.

The Dream: You’re back in school, taking a test.

The Interpretation: Usually this dream is connected to work, says Loewenberg. “School was our first job ever,” Loewenberg points out, adding that this dream is common when a work challenge is on the horizon. “Whether you’re trying to get a new client, it’s evaluation time, you’re trying to get a promotion—anytime you’re feeling tested and you’ve got to prove yourself.” The takeaway? “How did you feel in the dream? Were you prepared? It’s kind of like a mirror,” says Loewenberg.

The Dream: You’re hanging out with a celebrity—any celebrity.

The Interpretation: If the cameo feels random, there’s still a reason he or she is hanging around your subconscious. Ultimately, there’s something about that person—and it could be deep in their IMDB or Spotify history—that’s relevant to you right now. “Ask yourself what is it about this person that relates back to you,” explains Loewenberg. It could be a movie they’re in, a song of theirs—the message will be in the title of that movie or the lyrics to that song.”

The message could also be something related to that celebrity’s persona. “If you’re friends in the dream, whatever it is in that celebrity you like is something you like about yourself too,” says Loewenberg. “It’s something you want to be recognized for, too.”

The Dream: Your partner cheated on you.

The Interpretation: “If there’s infidelity in your past, either in this relationship or a past relationship, this will keep cropping up because it’s a bone of contention within yourself,” says Loewenberg. Also important to remember? Dreams aren’t prophecies. “If there aren’t trust issues and this seems to be coming out of left field, then it doesn’t mean your partner’s cheating,” explains Loewenberg. Instead, there may be another third wheel to blame. “There’s something that’s taking up too much time and attention away from you,” she says. “It could be a job, golf, friends, a new baby…something is causing you to feel cheated out of that time and attention.”

Ultimately, this dream can be a positive, so long as you don’t wake up pissed off at your partner for something they did in your subconscious. “It’s letting you know something needs to be corrected,” advises Loewenberg. “You and your partner can start having date nights, or try to cut down on golf or whatever it may be.”

The Dream: You’re running late to something super-important.

The Interpretation: If you work in a deadline-oriented field, this one is pretty self-explanatory, says Loewenberg. If not, timelines are likely still to blame—but they’re self-imposed. “Maybe you want to lose weight or you want to reach a level in your career by a certain date,” Loewenberg posits.

The Dream: You’re pregnant.

The Interpretation: Even if you’re not trying to have children, Loewenberg says this is a positive dream to have, as “it’s reflective that something is growing and developing inside of you.” It could be anything from a new idea to working toward a promotion, and in fact, “a lot of women get this when they’re working on a degree, or even when they’re on the verge of a new relationship.”

The Dream: You’re standing on a cliff, and suddenly you’re falling into nothingness.

The Interpretation: “Dreams of falling can be associated with feeling out of control or overwhelmed. They may also relate to feeling unsupported and insecure,” says Braun. If you dream of falling due to the floor coming out from under you, or a different variation, it can also be interpreted differently. “The devil is in the details. Even though there may be a general interpretation of falling, what is most important are the particulars for the person dreaming. He or she will have very different associations to the details of the dream. For a particular patient, falling may conjure up images of 9/11. Another may think of ‘falling from grace.’ In short, even though the dream of falling may be very common, the details are different in each case.”

The Dream: You’ve lost your voice and you’re unable to call or shout for help.

The Interpretation: “This may not just be a dream, but may be the result of sleep paralysis,” explains Braun. “During REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, the sleep cycle during in which we dream, our bodies experience REM atonia, a natural paralysis during the REM cycle. Physiologically, we are paralyzed during REM sleep to prevent our bodies from acting/moving while we dream. People who experience sleep paralysis usually wake up before the REM cycle is complete. This space between sleep and waking can be experienced as a dream. It can also be experienced in the waking state as being unable to move, talk, and in some cases breathe.”

The Dream: You’re naked, in public.

The Interpretation: “These dreams are often accompanied by feelings of embarrassment and shame,” says Braun. “They can also be related to feelings vulnerability and exposure.” But if you’re in the nude and feel no shame, it could be the total opposite. “Perhaps this person wants to be seen, acknowledged, admired.”

The Dream: Your teeth are suddenly falling out.

The Interpretation: Are you an anxious person? It could be pent up anxiety coming through in the form of a dream. “We might think of this as being concern about one’s potency, competence, strength, power, ability to ‘take a bite out’ of the world, ” says Braun. This common dream can also be associated with times of change and transition.

The Dream: You’re being chased.

The interpretation: It all depends on who is doing the chasing. “Often people are being chased by a monster. The monster may be a manifestation of an indiscretion, an addiction or a debt,” explains Braun. If you have the unfortunate dream (or nightmare) of being chased by someone you know, it could differ. “Your associations about the person chasing you are often more insightful than focusing on the actual person chasing you,” says Braun. “Keep in mind, people in dreams can be substitutions for other people or even substitutions for aspects of ourselves.”

The Dream: You’ve dreamt about an aspect of your day, or the current location where you’ve fallen asleep

The Interpretation: “This is a great example of ‘Day Residue,” explains Braun. “Often, what happened the day prior to dreaming is used in our dreams,” he says. We often construct our dreams of our thoughts and sights throughout the day.

The Dream: You’re in a position of power: a CEO, President, King or religious figure.

The Interpretation: “On the surface, dreaming of being in a position of power seems to be grandiose,” say Braun. “However, it can be argued that most people who dream of being in a position of power are in fact not in a position of power. Therefore, the dream turns the unpowerful dreamer, in the dream world, into the opposite. What looks like grandiosity is actually compensatory. The dream compensates (or covers up) for the feelings of being powerless.”

The Dream: You’re at an impossibly elegant dinner party or you’re with a deceased family member, or other impossible (positive) scenarios

The Interpretation: This kind of dream, along with other dreams of elaborated elegance can represent a need to supplement reality with fantasy. “Dreaming of a banquet is an attempt to satisfy the hunger of the missed meal,” explains Braun. “Dreaming of a dead loved one is a way to bring them back to life,” he says.

You Have To See This Photo Of What Ariana Grande’s CURLY Hair Looks Like Without The Ponytail

Seeing Ariana Grande without her signature ponytail is rare. Seeing Ariana Grande’s natural curly hair is even more rare, but it’s happened again. While the "Boyfriend" singer is known for her long ponytail, the often straight strands aren’t what her natural hair looks like, and thanks to her hairstylist, fans of Grande got to see another look at her natural curls.

On Thursday, Grande’s hairstylist Josh Liu took to his Instagram account to post a selfie of the singer with her naturally curly hair. While Grande has a filter on the photo, it’s clear that her hair is in its curls and falls to just below her shoulders. In his caption, Liu wrote, "natural curls coming in strong with a little tlc," with a black emoji heart.

Liu’s comments section on the photo was soon flooded with fans asking the stylist to convince Grande to wear her natural hair more often. Some even called for Grande to rock the look while out on tour. Liu didn’t respond to the requests, but ultimately, the decision is up to Grande whether she wants to wear her hair curly while on tour or meeting with fans.

Regardless of whether fans see the style IRL on tour, it’s super cute in photos.

This also isn’t the first time that Grande has let the world see her natural curls. Back in February, the singer posted a photo of herself when she was a kid that showed how curly her hair is IRL. In the tweet she wrote, "if i’m honest ….. this is still exactly what i look like without lashes and my pony ….. anyone who knows me knows me knows ….. like …. i’m twenty five. i was five here. the only difference now is that hand now says bbq grill finger." Yes, that is a reference to her infamous "7 Rings" tattoo.

Following the tweet, fans asked for proof that the singer’s hair is still the same curly look that she had when she was a kid, and she obliged.

In the video, she posted Grande’s hair seems shorter than Liu’s most recent photos, but the curly waves are still in tact. However, in an earlier tweet from February, she did explain that they’re not quite what they used to be due to going blonde the previous year. Now, though, they seem back in full force.

Grande’s curly hair isn’t the only throwback look she’s showcased, though. Just a day ago, the star posted a photo of herself when she was younger, and while her hair wasn’t curly, it was in a high ponytail. In the photo, Grande’s hair is long and straight, and she’s already rocking what would become her signature style.

While Ariana Grande’s curly hair may not make appearances often, when it does, fans certainly seem to love. While it’s up to the singer whether she wants to rock her hair naturally on tour, fans know that this star’s style hasn’t changed much. From childhood curls and high ponies, Grande is certainly consistent.

Jameela Jamil Wore ‘Euphoria’-Inspired Red Eye Makeup — And Randomly Ran Into Jules

HBO’s Euphoria is a hit on many levels. The series takes an honest and often difficult look at the youth of today, their relationships, their identities, their addictions, their struggles, and their triumphs. The show is also influencing fashion and culture. Actor Jameela Jamil rocked Euphoria-inspired makeup while at a Hollywood event this week. She also ran into Hunter Schafer, who plays Jules on the show, at said event.

Euphoria‘s beauty looks are usually defined by statement eye makeup. That’s a critically important convention since it expresses who the characters are and what they are feeling or going through. That aesthetic is crossing over and making a major impact IRL. Jamil’s electric red eyeshadow was party-ready and will look very familiar to fans of the show. It took direct inspo from several red eyeshadow looks that both Jules and the character Kat have rocked during the debut season.

Jamil, who is known for her outspoken social media posts regarding the often unattainable and outdated standards of the beauty industry and how those can negatively effect the self-esteem of young people, posted her red hot look on her personal Instagram stories. She also revealed that she did her makeup herself, according to PEOPLE. Furthermore, she captioned her post showing off her red-framed eyes by admitting she had only watched the riveting series once thus far and was already inspired to replicate its style.

Jamil wore the smoky, all-red cat eye to the InStyle Badass Women Dinner held on Aug. 13. She opted for heavy and matte scarlet shadow swept all over the lid and extended a thick, expertly executed wing at the outer corners. She finished the look by smoking out the bottom lash line in the same crimson shade. She buffed it out for a softer, more diffused look. Jamil also went with a barely there face, light lips, and beachy waves. Since her eye makeup was so intense and dramatic, it was best for Jamil balance things out by going neutral with her other features. The end result was absolutely stunning, just like the looks that fans see the beloved Euphoria characters pump on a regular basis.

Jamil’s red eye makeup also matched her roomy and loose-fitting blazer and romper. Red eyeshadow can be notoriously tricky to pull off. But Jamil, like Jules and Kat, just gave new meaning to the term "red eye." Jamil’s decision to go monochromatic with her outfit and eyeshadow was a boss move. The entire look worked for her — so much so that she should pay it a salary. Jamil might inspire you to create your own unique spin on Euphoria-style makeup, too.

Later in the evening, Jamil crossed paths with Schafer. The duo embraced in a photo posted to Jamil’s Insta story and she even captioned the shot: "Speaking of Euphoria…," since life was certainly imitating art.

Given the show’s impact and critical raves, HBO recently made the maroon hoodie worn by Zendaya’s character Rue available for purchase on its website. The top is essential to her backstory and now fans can connect with the show even further through a piece of clothing.

Ultimately, Euphoria‘s influence will continue to ripple through and be felt by the fashion and beauty realms. Jameela Jamil’s red eye makeup certainly won’t be the first, last, or only time a celeb copies the show’s beauty aesthetic.

Luka Doncic Is Keeping the Six-Pack Abs Promise He Made to Mark Cuban

There’s been a tidal wave of change in the NBA since the Toronto Raptors won the championship back in June. While player movement has set the league ablaze—the likes of Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, Russell Westbrook, and Paul George have all landed with new teams, just to name a few—it might just be a player who finally had the chance to stay put that made the biggest change.

Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks is good. That’s not exactly a bold take—he was the NBA’s Rookie of the Year for the 2018-2019 season, after landing on Dallas as the third overall pick in last year’s draft. But at the time of his drafting, he had spent 12 straight months playing with Real Madrid, so the Mavericks instead chose for Doncic to prioritize rest last summer.

The result had Doncic’s listed weight of 218 (he’s 6’7”) looking not quite accurate last season. Again, he’s been called a generational talent, and has drawn comparisons to LeBron James, so he still managed to put up more than 21 points a game, and become the new face of the franchise for the Mavericks. But with a summer to focus on shaping his body into what it’s capable of, he could come even closer to those LeBron comps. “The sky’s the limit for him,” Doc Rivers told The New York Times back in February. “Wait until he gets in shape.”

So, clearly, this summer that’s been the primary goal for the versatile Slovenian forward. Back in June, Mavericks owner and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban said that he saw Doncic working out with coach Rick Carlisle, and that he “saw an ab.” Yep—pretty sure just one. “There may have been 2. But he’s definitely in better shape.”

. @mcuban says @luka7doncic is “on a boat somewhere,” but was in Dallas about 2 weeks ago.

“He came and he was working out with Coach . . I actually saw an ab, so it was a step in the right direction.”

Just one ab?

“There may have been 2. But he’s definitely in better shape.”

Doncic clearly saw this as something of a challenge, responding to the reporter’s tweet with a light-hearted promise (please take note of the ‘crying laughing’ emojis) of a six-pack by the end of the summer.

6 pack coming soon @mcuban 😂😂😂😂

A few months later, and it looks like the reigning Rookie of the Year is well on his way to fulfilling his oath. Doncic posted a series of photos on Instagram that find him mid-exercise, looking leaner than at any point in his first go-around in the association.

The three pictures show him doing trap bar carries, dumbbell rows, and what appears to be a loaded barbell push exercise. The carries will be the most effective for his six-pack aspirations, as we’ve discussed how versatile and efficient the movement can be at Men’s Health. Want to give carries a go in your own routine? Check out the all-carry workout Men’s Health advisor Don Saladino used to get David Harbour into shape for Hellboy.

Other ballers are taking notice to the work he’s putting in as well. The comments on the post found comments from the likes of teammate Kristaps Porzingis and Courtney Lee (who both came over last season from the New York Knicks), as well as the team’s official account.

Porzingis, who hasn’t played a game for Dallas yet, seemed excited about the stellar shape that his teammate looks to be in. “Yessirrr!!! Keep putting in work” he wrote. Lee put it more bluntly: “Skinny Luka bout to be a problem,” he wrote.

Not to be outdone, though, Porzingis—who came into the league skinny-as-a-rail for his 7’3” frame—also looks to be buffing up this summer. He shared a snapshot of his own offseason progress on his Instagram:

When the angle is right 😳😂 shoutout Valdiii we putting in work!!

Lots of eyes will be on Doncic this year, as he attempts to take a major step after a super-impressive rookie year. Anyone drawing LeBron James comparisons is going to have a tough time living up to those expectations, but Doncic’s commitment to fitness and transforming his body this summer definitely have him off to a good start.

The Fall Hairstyle Trends Blowing Up On Instagram Right Now

The Fall Hairstyle Trends Blowing Up On Instagram Right Now

For every messy, straight-from-the-beach, IDGAF hairstyle you pulled out this Summer, there’s a Fall equivalent waiting around the corner to zhuzh it up. (We’d like to think of the season as the Jonathan Van Ness to your fourth-day topknot, but, um, in that fun, equally aspirational way.)

“During the Summer, people tend to let go of the rules and set their hair’s natural texture free,” said Devin Toth, hairstylist at SGK Salon in NYC. “However, Fall hair embodies chic, clean sophistication and people give it a little more attention. Your vibe can be playful, edgy, or even ruffled by a hat and scarf, but ultimately your hair this season will require and deserve a little more je ne sis quoi during the morning preparation, because it won’t just be tucked away anymore — it will be at the forefront of your overall style.”

Rest assured: just because the days of undone beachy hair have gone by way of Summer Friday’s and rooftop hangs, doesn’t mean the hair forecast will be time-consuming. In fact, we’ve asked Toth and Ashley Streicher, celebrity hairstylist and Sun Bum brand ambassador, to break down the Fall hairstyle trends that are easy (maybe just not. . . get-up-and-go easy).

NARS Cosmetics' new lipstick looks a lot like a penis

If you’ve ever shopped for a discreet sex toy then you’ve probably come across the lipstick shaped vibrator: it’s inconspicuous and functional.

But of course, the lipstick part isn’t real and all of us just use it to get off.

And while NARS’ new lippy, looks explicitly like a pink dick, it is what it says on the tin; their new line of lipsticks, After Hours.

The beauty brand isn’t venturing in the sex toy industry, the cosmetics just happen to look a lot like fleshy peens.

NARS debuted the look on Instagram where users couldn’t help but notice the likeness to the male form.

And the video certainly didn’t help. The advert showed time-lapses of each product coming together which pretty much looked like a veiny dick solidifying into makeup (neat trick).

Alas, it was lipstick all along. We’re not sure about the rationale behind the advertising but they certainly went for a sexy vibe.

And while we all appreciate this latest bit of ‘things that look like rude bits’ we have to warn you, please please don’t use an actual lippy as a sex toy.

Clearly, the marketing folks knew what they were doing as NARS Cosmetics captioned their Insta image with: ‘When the nudes keep you up all night. Reach the dawn with Morocco Lipstick, a warm cinnamon.’

What they meant was, obviously, reach for the new bit of makeup to impress your nude pic recipient, and not that you should reach the product for some self-pleasure, though makeup can totally be about self-love.

And social media users are totally feeling the item (and its associated sexiness).

One person commented ‘Very clever NARS. Solid advertisement.’

Another shared the sentiment saying, ‘Holy crap! SLAY IT SIS!! Best advertisement ever seen!!’

Someone else wrote: ‘Ummmm, thought it was something else. Great advertisement.’

Anyway, we’re calling the stuff lipdick.
