Remember getting ready for a night out?
We might be spending most of our days indoors at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t still make an effort with our makeup – even if it is to go for a woodland walk or to the supermarket.
Of course, now face masks are a key part of everyday life, makeup products which are long-lasting (and don’t rub off at the slightest friction) have become the priority.
So, to save you time and energy researching and trialling products, we’ve done the hard work for you and tested some of the best long-lasting lipsticks on the market – to see which deliver the best results.
We’ve rated the below lipsticks on their long-wearing qualities and whether they managed to stay on the lips rather than rub off on a mask.
YSL Tatouage Couture Lipstick, £30
Mask rating: 6/10
YSL is known for its high-standard products and this couture lipstick certainly screams quality. The coverage is excellent as the high-pigmented liquid formula means only a little bit of product is needed for a really bold colour and the applicator lets you clearly define the shape.
However, in terms of passing the mask test, a little bit did rub off onto the material (which isn’t ideal if you’re wearing a really vibrant shade, as it could transfer onto your face).
Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink, £9.99
Mask rating: 9/10
This affordable high street product gave its high-end competitors a run for their money. Coming in at less than £10, this matte liquid formula really does what it says on the tin… superstays.
The product left absolutely no marks on the face mask and the colour stayed in place all day, living up to its ‘twelve-hour wear’ guarantee.
Illamasaqua Ultramatter Lipstick, £20
Mask rating: 5/10
The quality of Illamasaqua’s products cannot be disputed. This Ultramatter high pigmentation lipstick gives off zero shine for a perfect matte finish. However, this formula does transfer onto a face mask, which can leave lips looking a little patchy.
But, don’t be discouraged, this product is still a lovely option for when you don’t need to wear a mask.
Bareminerals Barepro Lipstick, £20
Mask rating: 7/10
When this creamy formula is first applied it seems unlikely it will stay on once a mask is popped over it. However, after a few minutes, the texture turns more matte and sets on the lips – leaving barley-there marks if a mask touches. However, it does need touching up from time to time because of this.
What’s more, despite the matte formula, it still feels nourishing on the lips.
L’Oreal Paris Signature Matte Liquid Lipstick, £9.99
Mask rating: 8/10
This liquid formula is great for staying put and gives a soft-matte finish which doesn’t feel too heavy or drying.
The colour also lasts as the day goes on and doesn’t turn patchy. At less than £10, it’s a great option and there are 12 different shades to choose from.
Collection Lasting Lipstick, £2.99
Mask rating: 5/10
While it might be the cheapest option on our round-up, the Collection Lasting Lipstick didn’t perform as well as other products.
However, mask rating aside, this lipstick really is a bargain at less than £3 – especially because the formula is really nice on the lips and stays on a little longer if a mask isn’t in the picture.
